Fondaco dei Tedeschi
The project
The Fondaco dei Tedeschi is a palace in Venice, located in the San Marco district and overlooking the Grand Canal, adjacent to the Rialto Bridge. The Fondaco has an ancient foundation (XIII century) and is linked to the commercial needs of the Republic of Venice: it was the landmark for goods transported by German merchants. The palace has been for a long time property of Italian post offices. In 2008 it was given to the Benetton group, it has been subjected to a new static and functional recovery operation, for its conversion into a mall. Today it is also equipped with a cultural pole, open to the public on October 2016.
